So, What Exactly Is a DORA?
Good question! A Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA for short) lets adults 21 and older purchase alcoholic beverages from participating downtown businesses and carry them outside to enjoy within the DORA boundaries. Your drink gets served in a specially labeled DORA cup, and you're free to stroll, shop, and soak up the downtown atmosphere. Simple as that.
Evansville's DORA was championed by the Downtown Evansville Improvement District (DEID) and unanimously approved by City Council on March 10, 2025. It's the first DORA ever approved for Evansville—and one of more than 30 across the state of Indiana.
Here are a few quick tidbits of info to know about Evansville’s DORA:
- DORA is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year 🎉
- Weeknight hours: 4:30 PM–10 PM | Weekend hours: 10 AM–10 PM
- During June and July, hours extend to 10 AM–10 PM daily
- You can carry up to two open beverages at a time
- Your drink must stay within the DORA boundaries—watch for the boundary signs!
- DORA cups are welcome in select retail shops displaying the "DORA Cups Welcome Here" sticker
