A fried kind of love.

It's That Time Again: The Fall Fest Is Here

Fall Fest Overview Franklin Street

A Century of Celebration, Fried Food, and Local Pride

Ah, the Fall Fest. The fry-light of fall in our Region. Think: anything you can dream of, deep-fried in greasy goodness, with an apple cider in hand, and live music to enjoy. Plus, all the proceeds go to local nonprofits. You get the good munchies, and the nonprofits help the community! The Fall Fest is the one time of year when locals get together to fill their bellies, judgment-free. In fact, it is a rite of passage around here.

What started as a humble group of businessmen trying to improve their community has become Evansville's biggest event of the year. The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival (known locally as the Fall Fest) is beloved by people across the country. Over 200,000 visitors flock to Franklin Street for a taste of fried deliciousness and small-town charm. Over 100 food vendors, amusement park rides, and endless memories are all packed into one lively street on the West Side of Evansville. Go for an evening with friends, or come back every night. We won't judge.

Why 2026 Is a Big Deal for the Fall Festival

Let's talk trophies for a second. The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival has won USA TODAY 10Best's "Best Fall Festival in the USA" title four years running — 2023, 2024, 2025, and (most recently) 2026. That's not a fluke; that's a dynasty. As the Nut Club put it themselves:

"This festival is unlike anything else in the country because it belongs to the community."

We couldn't have said it better if we'd tried. With over 130 food booths run by local nonprofits, school groups, churches, and community organizations, grabbing your Fall Festival favorites also means supporting organizations throughout the Evansville Region.

What to Expect on Franklin Street This Year

Picture this: a crisp fall day, the smell of funnel cakes in the air, and a lively crowd that feels like half the town decided to throw the biggest block party ever. That’s Franklin Street during festival season: equal parts nostalgia and indulgence, with a dash of unexpected fun. If you've never been, well, pull up a chair. Here’s what’s cookin’ this year:

The Food (Obviously!) 🌭

With more than 130 booths lining Franklin Street, food is the main event for a lot of festival-goers, and for good reason. Whether you're after a classic elephant ear dusted with cinnamon sugar, a corn dog dipped in mustard, or something fried you've never heard of (fried ice cream, anyone?), there's something for every craving. 🤤

Hungry for something a little more substantial? Local nonprofits serve up hearty plates of BBQ, homestyle chili, and loaded baked potatoes that'll keep you fueled for the rest of the day. And don't even get us started on the desserts. Start with funnel cakes and kettle corn, then top it off with a fresh-squeezed lemonade to wash it all down. Before you go, pull up the official Munchie Map so you can plan your route by booth number instead of wandering aimlessly and following your nose (although that works too).

The Rides and Attractions 🎡

No street festival is complete without carnival rides lighting up the night sky, and the Fall Festival delivers the full experience. Whether you're chasing thrills or just want a slow spin above the crowd to survey your food options from above, the midway has you covered.

Ready to ride? Ride tickets can be purchased at the festival, so you can jump on your favorite attractions without any hassle. Brave the spinning chaos of the Tilt-A-Whirl, soar high on the swing ride, or let the little ones take their first spin on the kiddie carousel. Thrill-seekers can test their nerves on the Gravitron or the bumper cars, while the Ferris wheel remains the crown jewel, offering sweeping views of the entire festival. Whatever your speed, there's a ride waiting for you. 🫵

Lighthouse Parade

The Spectacular Events 🤹‍♀️

This is where the festival really shows off its personality. Amateur Hour puts local talent of all ages on the center stage.  Special Kids Day makes sure children of every ability get to experience the fun, and the Queen & King contest  crowns festival royalty. 👑

Feeling competitive? The tug-of-war competition has your name on it. Want something wholesome? Check out Youth of the Day or Family Day. And don't snooze on the parades! From classic to quirky, the Main Parade, Lighthouse Parade, and even a Pet Parade all make their way down Franklin Street throughout the week.

The Half Pot 💰

For the daring adventurers in the crowd, the Half Pot raffle is one of the festival's most anticipated traditions. Tickets are sold throughout the week at various locations across the festival grounds, and the more you buy, the better your chances of winning. At the end of the festival, one lucky winner walks away with half of the total pot collected, which can add up to a serious sum depending on ticket sales. It's a fun and easy way to support the festival while keeping a little extra excitement in your back pocket all week long.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Stroll Down Franklin Street

Before you head out, keep these tips in mind:

  • Plan your parking early: street closures and heavy foot traffic are part of the deal, so don't leave it to chance.
  • Pick a meeting spot: with crowds this size, it's easy to lose your group. Agree on a landmark before you arrive.
  • Spread your visits across a couple of days: trying to see and eat everything in one marathon session is a recipe for sore feet and an unhappy stomach.

Fall in Love with Everybody’s Favorite Fall Festival 🎡

At the end of the day, the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival isn't about checking every box on a to-do list; it's about soaking in the atmosphere, expanding your (fried) food horizons, and maybe running into a handful of people you haven't seen since high school. That's the magic that's earned this festival three national titles and counting.

So mark your calendar for October 5–10 this year, and get down to Franklin Street. Fall festival season doesn't get better than this, and this year, Evansville is sure to prove it once again.
