Alex's e-story: Building a Community of Pride, Love, & Lattes

Alex & Ben

Nestled between two corn fields in Posey County is a whimsical town called New Harmony. Known for its charm, New Harmony might feel like it's pulled straight from the soundstage of the Truman Show to a newcomer. But fear not, you aren’t trapped in a hidden camera show. The people really are that friendly! ✨

Alex Gale, and his husband Ben, owners of Black Lodge Coffee, have never met a stranger. Walk into their coffee shop on any given day (within their store hours, of course), and you’ll be greeted with an infectious smile, a familiar welcome, and a passion for coffee that goes into every detail down to the locally constructed furniture. Meeting Alex feels like a warm hug, even with a counter between you. ⛄💕

Just do it. ✨

“If you're considering a move to the Evansville Region, just do it.”

Learn more about Alex.

Alex and Ben are passionate about New Harmony, and what they pour into their community comes back to them tenfold. Their community shows up for them. As an LGBTQ+, small business in rural Southern Indiana, you might think it’s a risky decision to prominently display a Pride flag year-round. But they view this decision as a way to open a non-intrusive conversation around their Pride. This year, many other New Harmony businesses adorned their awnings with Pride flags in support of the LGBTQ+ community, but more inspiringly, in support of Alex & Ben. 🌈

Alex and Ben are ready to welcome you with the best damn cup of coffee and a nostalgic atmosphere that will make you feel like you’re already friends. ☕
