Making Progress.
Learn more about Diana.
Being a first-generation immigrant in the United States, Diana faced challenges that many can only imagine. With no relatives in the country, she had to navigate the complexities of a new culture, a new language, and an entirely different way of life. However, her mother's teachings about embracing change as the only constant in life became her guiding light during these challenging times.
Diana's passion for learning is a defining aspect of her character. A self-proclaimed "student for life," she took on her first career in childcare, dedicating two decades to nurturing and caring for the youngest members of society. But her thirst for knowledge did not stop there. Diana decided to embark on a new journey and went back to school, defying societal expectations and the limitations often imposed on immigrant women.
Today, as an Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of the Eykamp Center for Teaching Excellence, Diana is a changemaker. At UE, Diana found more than a workplace, she found a chosen family. This year, Diana received the Center for Innovation & Change Global Scholarship to develop a virtual reality portal for language and culture exchanges in Bogotá, Cartagena and Medellín, Colombia. As an educator and advocate for the Hispanic/Latinx population, she plays a vital role in bridging gaps and fostering inclusivity. Her journey is a beacon of hope for those who, like her, navigate the uncharted waters of being a first-generation college student.
Diana Rodriguez Quevedo's story is one of triumph over adversity, of breaking down barriers, and of embracing change with open arms. Her journey serves as a reminder that, regardless of our backgrounds, we have the power to shape our destinies and rewrite our narratives. As Diana continues to inspire those around her, her story echoes the sentiment that the pursuit of knowledge and the willingness to adapt are the keys to unlocking one's full potential in the face of change.
