Skate and Destroy! (Right off of the Lloyd)

To the skate aficionados and pavement poets, we have updates on Indiana's largest concrete skatepark:

  • Former Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke nominated Sunset Skatepark for a Leadership Everyone Award and the project won! In the nomination, Winnecke wrote, "The Sunset Skatepark project, led by community advocate Heather Vaught and the Department of Parks and Recreation, has significantly contributed to quality of life in Evansville. Years in the making , this collaboration has brought to life Indiana's largest concrete skatepark, providing a vibrant, inclusive space for skateboarding and biking enthusiasts. Heather's advocacy, along with the Parks Department's support, has transformed our long-standing vision into a reality, demonstrating what can be achieved through grassroots, community-driven initiatives."

  • The Sunset Skatepark team wrote a grant and won $3,000 for more seating, including benches and picnic tables! The extra seating is a continuation of the advocacy team's vision. The next time you visit the park, invite some friends to observe from the seating. Maybe you can inspire a future skater or biker to give the sports a try.

  • Downtown Evansville installed its first outdoor hydration station next to the park. This is not your average water fountain; the hydration station is ultra-filtered through a reversal osmosis filtration system. The water remains chilled and is able to be operated outdoors year-round.

  • Spotted skating in Evansville- Bam Margera! You may know him as a pro-skater and star of MTV's Jackass. If you're a firm believer of "pics or it didn't happen," check out his post on Instagram
